Comet Camera Digital Processing Module (Hardware)
The project aims are the design development, production, and verification of the Digital Processing Module (DPM) hardware for the Comet Camera (CoCa) (within the Instrument Electronics Unit (ELU)) on board the ESA F-class mission named Comet Interceptor (Comet-I), part of the Cosmic Vision programme. The activity covers all engineering units and the flight ones as well with a full verification programme. The Comet Camera (CoCa) working in the visible and near-infrared is to be provided by the University of Bern. The DPM unit will be the main control and monitoring element of the CoCa payload to be responsible for the initial science image collection, storage, onboard processing, and all related payload monitoring, and controlling activities through direct communication interfaces with the spacecraft. The unit will feature a RADHARD design architecture and is expected to be launched in 2028.
